Over the weekend I decorated our home for fall. My husband agreed to help as long as I let him listen to his “fall music.” According to Chad, Â the Braveheart soundtrack qualifies as “fall music.”
That’s my man folks 🙂
As I was hanging my fall wreaths, I thought of a post I wrote last September that resonated with many of you. I wanted to share it again, because there are touches of red all around us…
Every room of our home contains a touch of red. You’ll see red throughout a pillow case, flower arrangement, or piece of artwork. In some rooms the red is obvious. In other rooms you barely notice it, but the red is there. I did this on purpose. The red is what ties all the rooms together…
“What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”
~Romans 6:1-4 NIV,emphasis mine
I love this passage in the book of Romans. I come back to it often. When I am in a season where overcoming a particular sin seems impossible, I remind myself that there is a touch of red, spiritually speaking, in me too. Upon receiving Jesus as my Savior, I am united to Him in death. Meaning, I died to my old way of living. I died to sin.
A touch of red ties me together with my Savior…
“For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin—because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.”
~Romans 6:5-7 NIV
As we enter into the fall season, with its accents of red, remember that there is a touch of red within you. Because of this, you can rise with Jesus Christ and find freedom from whatever sin(s) you are struggling against.
There is a hint of death, so that there is no hint of sin…
“In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.”
~Romans 6:11-14 NIV, emphasis mine
I pray that this will be a season where we will not allow sin to reign in our bodies. That we would we offer our bodies to God, and allow the Holy Spirit to transform us, one degree at a time. (2 Corinthians 3:17-18 ESV)
As you fill your rooms with pumpkins and other fall decorations, notice and appreciate the touches of red around you, and in you.
Thankful to be under His grace,
