It’s almost Thanksgiving! So since cooking is on most of our brains, the following is a recipe that I have tried and highly recommend for you and yours. And it’s time for another GIVEAWAY! At the end of the post, you will have a chance to win one of these beautiful pillows.
Main Course: Abrahamic Stuffing
“Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations…Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead-since he was about a hundred years old-and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.”
~Romans 4:18-21, NIV, emphasis mine
Ingredients:
- 2 c. of weary:
Abraham was a man who was worn out. In the Greek, “his body was as good as dead” means: worn out; impotent. Turning 100 is not on my radar, yet the past couple of months (and my two adorable toddlers) leave me feeling worn out and ineffectual.
- 1/2 c. of hope:
Abraham was a man of hope. Abraham kept hoping even when there was no reason for him to hope. I love that. He kept hoping because he remembered what God had promised him. (See Genesis chapters 15-18)
- 1/2 c. of fact:
Abraham was a man of fact. Abraham used his brain and faced the truth about his situation. He acknowledged the facts but worshipped God. Sadly, facts are often worshipped and God is merely acknowledged. Yikes. Guilty.
- 1 c. of faith:
Abraham was a man of certain faith. Abraham did not allow doubt in God’s ability to fulfill His promise to enter his mind. The reverse happened. Abraham was strengthened in his faith; giving glory to God because he was 100% convinced that God would keep His Word.
Directions:
Pour the mixture of weary, hope, fact, and faith onto the altar of your heart and mix well. Add as much trust and love for God as needed. Allow God’s mercy, love, forgiveness, and faithfulness to permeate the mixture and cook it to perfection.
Continue to chew on the following:
How certain are you of God and His Word? Does God have the power to do what He says He will do?
Recipe Serving Size: 1 satisfied saint.

Lovely pillow! What a cute idea to share a recipe for Abraham’s faith although really it’s a very serious and potent concoction! Our church has been going through a series called Vintage Faith, we’ve been looking at the faith of some of the people from Hebrews 11. That’s one of the things I’m thankful for, God’s generous gift of witnesses to his faithfulness through the ages! I enjoyed hopping over from Eileen’s spot to visit your blog today.

I am thankful I found your blog. Your comments remind me of the awesome-ness of God and I am always thankful when a new post shows up in my blog reader. On this particular post, I’m struck by the quantities in your recipe. I noticed that “weary” got the largest measurement (2 cups). That is often how I feel, like my weariness is overtaking me. However, when you add up the other ingredients the measurement is exactly the same (2 cups). For me, this shows that God will give me just the right amount of these ingredients that I need to “offset” the weariness. He knows just what I need. Thank you for the beautiful post.
Tracy says
Stacy-I love that you caught the ingredient detail in the post. You read my mind. My weariness is at an all time high, yet God knows what I need and continues to offset my weariness in this current season. Keep in mind, that though I am clearly taking some creative liberties in this post, I don’t mean to imply the quantities to be fixed either :). I know they may not always “add up” perfectly! What I do know with certain faith, is that our God is big enough, loving enough, and patient enough to “cook” us into what He wants us to become, no matter what we pour out on the altar of our hearts before Him, amen? Happy Thanksgiving and thank you for reading Stacy!

Amen! Happy Thanksgiving!

I am thankful for so much & take it all for granted. I’m so thankful for God’s new mercies every morning. And so thankful for the time I had with my grandfather before he won his battle with dementia. I’m thankful for living in a free country. I’m thankful for a gracious & merciful God. I try to thank him everyday…I saw a quote, “What if you woke up today with only what you thanked God for yesterday?” Love & miss you, friend!!! I’m so thankful for you & your words that stay with me from mentoring me & I Treasure our time together. Like I said, so much to be thankful for 🙂
Bridgit Smith says
Love the recipe! “Allow God’s mercy, love, forgiveness, and faithfulness to permeate the mixture and cook it to perfection!”
These are what I need to permeate in my own heart and life! 🙂
I am thankful that I have enough! Sometimes I get stuck on needing I need more money, clothes, talents, the list could go on and on. But am striving today to be thankful because I have enough! 🙂
Love you Tracy and praying for you as you and your family approach this first holiday season without your Mom.

Thank you Bridgit for sharing about the blessing of “enough.” 🙂 I also appreciate your prayers for our family during this time. Foxy Roxie’s birthday was also on November 14th. So we are walking through a lot of “firsts” right now. Trust me when I tell you that my weariness is real, and that I am constantly pouring it out over and over. Bless you dear sister, and Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
Jo Cook Millett says
I am thankful that God grants me new mercies every day. I don’t deserve them but, in His infinite love, He still grants them.
I am thankful for the family He has blessed me with – my loving and God-filled husband, our children, and our grandchildren AND my brothers and sisters in Christ.
I am thankful that God loved ME enough to send His Son to live and die for MY sins.
Continued prayers and love for you and your family, Tracy!

Sunah Hoeferkamp says
I am thankful for my step-daughter. Circumstances are not easy, and my husband’s and my burden is heavy at times. Through this, however, I am reminded to be joyful ALWAYS, and to give thanks in ALL circumstances. (1 Thess 5:17). I am drawn closer to Him and His promises that His children will be deivered from evil and those who hate us, He has plans to prosper and not harm us, and my favorite right now of “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.” John 14:1. Thus, this is my area of gratitude, not the obvious through our world’s eyes, but precious in the eyes of our God “for this is God’s will for you (me/us) in Christ Jesus.” Happy Thanksgiving!
Tracy says
Sunah-I love how your list is composed of verse after verse. You go sister! Such beautiful words and promises to cling to in the midst of weariness. I am praying for you and am thankful God crossed our paths 🙂 Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family as well!

Shannon says
What an outstanding post! The way you broke each ingredient down made it so easy to understand. Yikes, I do place more trust in facts at times. Thank you Jesus for teaching my about the sin of unbelief a few years ago! He continually reminds me to cry out for more faith just like the father who wanted to see his son healed in the NT. Thanks Tracy! Love you!
Tracy says
Shannon thank you for your honesty. You remind me of Mark 9:24, where the father of a possessed boy looks into the face of Christ and exclaims “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” (NIV) My heart has echoed the same! Happy Thanksgiving!
Jasmine McGraw says
I am thankful for God’s mercy. That he loves us too much to leave us in our state of sin and shame.
Tracy says
Yes, Jasmine. His mercy is new every morning, His forgiveness and love is limitless. Praise Him! Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi there and thank you for stopping by! I checked out your blog and am excited to see that you share my heart for mentoring! I also have family in Wyoming too:). I will be checking out your e-book, and am looking forward to reading it! I appreciate your comment about faith being serious and potent. Hebrews 11 is one of my favorite chapters because of the examples it provides of imperfect people with praiseworthy faith. God is indeed generous-praise Him! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

I am so thankful that I will have my kids and their spouses, my grandsons, and my parents here for Thanksgiving. Larry has been such a big help in getting everything ready. My prayer is that Christ’s love will be prominent in our lives this week, that Christ will be glorified in all that we do. Tracy, as you know it is not often that I can get my kids here together because of the travel issues, so I want to treasure this time, and give thanks to the One who made it possible.
Tracy says
YAY Donna! What wonderful news to read. I am so thankful you all can be together this year. It is a precious blessing indeed. Praising God with you, and Happy Thanksgiving!
