Happy (almost) 4th of July everyone!
Living on a military base has its perks. For instance, Monday-Friday at 5:00 p.m., the National Anthem is played over the loud speakers scattered accross the base. All traffic stops. Pedestrians stop running or walking and turn to face the direction of the American Flag. Service members stand at attention until the anthem ends. My 3 year old son and I face the Flag and put our right hand over our hearts.
This brings me to tears.
Especially, when I see my son look up at his daddy and mimic his actions…
Oh say can you see…that our freedom is not free?
America’s freedom was purchased through shed blood on the battle field. Through this precious blood our freedoms were born. I pray that tomorrow you will take a moment to pause and remember how precious our freedom is. Men shed their lives so we could be free to live our lives as we see fit.
They gave, and we benefit.
Lee Greenwood makes me cry, EVERY time
Whenever I hear the song: “God bless the USA” by Lee Greenwood I cry. And I don’t mean sniffle! The line that gets me is: “And I won’t forget the men who died who gave that right to me…”
Can you relate?
I cry when I think of our soldiers who have given their lives thoughout our country’s history.
They gave…I benefit now.
Yet every time I hear those lyrics, I also think of Jesus.
He also gave…I benefit for all eternity.
{oh great, here come the tears now as I type}
Our Nation IS under God
I am proud to be an American and citizen of a nation that is under God. (remember the Pledge of Allegiance?) No matter what we read or hear in the news, no matter how some in our nation try to deny or ignore God, He is sovereign. God has, will, and will always reign.
We have a lot to celebrate tomorrow don’t we?
Now it’s your turn to join me in celebrating:
I would love to know how you are celebrating the 4th of July! Do you have an annual tradition? What do you love about the 4th? I love seeing all the flags, hearing the patriotic music, eating watermelon, and watching the fireworks. What about you?
