One of my favorite household duties is folding and putting away our clean laundry. I also love to fold linen napkins and place them in their appropriate spot around our dinner table. Hundreds of bows were folded and secured to the backs of our wedding reception chairs.
Order. Detail. Accomplished.
Easter.
Something new about the Resurrection of Jesus caught my attention this year. I am not the only one who folds linen.
Order. Detail. Accomplished.
Jesus.
Jesus is not dead- He is alive. The only thing found in the tomb on that first Easter morning was Jesus’ burial linen cloths. The sheet that was placed over Jesus’ face was found folded and sitting by itself. (John 20:7 ESV)
The sheet was folded.
Either “type A” robbers took time to unwrap the burial cloths and fold the sheet before walking away with a naked corpse~
or
the folded sheet signifies something else.
Order. Detail. Accomplished.
“The tomb was not open to let Jesus’ body out, but to let the disciples and the world see that He rose.”
~Bible Knowledge Commentary
Jesus is bound by nothing- not linen, large rocks, nor is He bound by death. Jesus moved through all of them. They help us see and believe.
Order.
The sheet that once covered his mutilated face was removed and folded. It was folded because it was no longer needed. Jesus’ face will never be mutilated or covered again.
Detail.
This is Easter.
This is the Jesus I love:
Ordered.
Detailed.
Accomplished.
Alive.

I love when details come together and mean something! Thank you for sharing this one. You’re right, just one more testament to the living Christ! I am smiling at the thought of tomb robbers carefully folding the burial cloths – I think I would have kept the body wrapped if I was going to steal it… just sayin’… Have a joy-filled week! Janet

Good morning, beautiful Tracy! Long time since we talked. Just read this this morning, and it is an extension of our Easter service we attended in San Diego,….empty cross, empty tomb, empty funeral clothes. He is Risen! Love to you and your family, Adele
Tracy says
Adele- Hi my beautiful friend. I miss hearing from you, but pray all is well. Let’s talk soon- He is Risen indeed!

Just found your site. Love this post. I read the story again of Jesus not tasting the drink the soldiers offered him, at first, and then asking for a drink later. It seemed that drink would have desensitized Jesus and he wouldn’t have been able to coherently welcome the thief beside him – how cool that he waited for the drink until that was done!
Tracy says
Marcy~ hello and thank you for stopping by One Degree. I LOVE this other detail of the Passion Week that you share here. Shows further proof of the love and compassion of Christ- not to mention further fulfillment of prophecy. I stopped by your Thyme Magazine and will be returning- lots of wonderful info and encouragement. Blessings on your ministry 🙂
