I am just a road sign

 

I have two pieces of exciting news to share with you today:

1) God is leading me into a new season of ministry.

2) I am a road sign.

 

 

 

 

During the Holidays, I prayed over the ministries I participate in and over the future of One Degree. My plate was becoming overloaded. My attitude was starting to stink. I sensed God telling me to let go of a couple of activities and say “no” to some exciting opportunities that popped up. (This is extremely difficult for me to do. Extroverts like to be everywhere with everybody ALL the time)

God did lead me to say “yes” to one new opportunity. I am excited to share that I am now the Executive Director of Global Groups for the Whatever Girls ministry. When the founder, Erin Bishop, shared her vision for creating a world wide ministry of small groups that help moms and teen girls grow closer to God together, I became intrigued. I will help Erin provide these moms with the training, encouragement, and prayer support needed to lead teen girls effectively. I am truly honored and excited to serve God, these moms, and teen girls in this way.

That being said (or written)~I do not feel that God wants me to pull the plug on One Degree at this time. Rather, I sense He is calling me to leave the future of my writing and speaking ministry here at One Degree where it belongs- in His hands. I simply ask for your grace and patience as I figure out this new season. I sincerely thank you for your continued comments and support of this blog.

This ties into my second bit of news:

 

I am just a road sign.

I had the honor of speaking to a group of young mothers who lead their local MOPs group a couple weeks ago. I shared the following analogy- reminding the women they cannot be everything to everybody.

 

 

Let’s say we are going to meet at your home and drive to Canada together. We would agree that road signs are an important resource for us to use on our trip, wouldn’t we? Road signs tell us when to speed up or if we need  to slow down. Road signs tell us if there is construction or hazardous conditions ahead. They help us head in the direction of Canada, our final destination.

The road sign is not the destination. It is only there for us to glance at and reference. Spiritually speaking, you and I are like a road sign. Becoming more like Jesus Christ is the direction we should head. Christ-likeness then is our destination.

When those around us glance at our lives, we have the opportunity to detour them away from the “black ice or falling rocks” of this world. We can guide them back onto a safer path paved with promises of Scripture. We exist to glorify God and help others move closer to Him.

We are not the destination.

 

Confession time:

I became overwhelmed as I considered how to balance One Degree with my new position at Whatever Girls.  I need to remember that I am just a road sign. (Whew!) God did not create me to be anyone’s destination. (A double whew!) The words I write are here for you to glance at before you click back into Facebook or read your other emails.

As you drive by, I pray my words cause you to slow down, or help you find your way back into a relationship with God. I hope they encourage you to keep moving towards your Christ-like destination. If I cannot write as much or post as often right now, it will be ok. I am one of many road signs out here in the blogosphere.

Like me, you may be in a new season. You said, “no,” or you have taken on new responsibilities. You may feel as though your “no” disappointed someone, or wonder how you are going to do it all- remember you are like a road sign. Ease up on yourself. Abide in your Heavenly Father’s presence. Help whoever “drives” by and glances at you to move in the right direction.

You cannot be everything to everybody. Jesus can and IS. What a beautiful destination we have ahead of us…
