Facetime is my favorite iPhone feature. Apple has truly rocked my world by allowing me to hear and see people as I talk to them. However, I dislike the fact that the pores and blemishes on my face look gi-normous on my phone screen. So I hold my phone at arms length while Facetiming, which makes my pores vanish. Holding my phone like this gets old 5 minutes into the call… but I digress!
I would like to introduce you to my best girlfriend, Jenet. There are hundreds of literal miles that separate us on a daily basis. But the miles do not matter, for Jenet has an iPhone that has Facetime. This is fabulous! Now we can talk and see each others’ faces. What a blessing.
As you can tell by the picture above, my beautiful bestie loves to entertain friends and family. She knew I wanted to attend this particular party, but was unable to do so. So Jenet cut out a picture of my face and glued it to a popsicle stick, so I could “be” at the party too. Even though our husbands do not “get” this gesture of love, it made the two of us feel better and made the miles between us disappear.
My 4 year old son loves his daddy. Jack wants to fly planes like his daddy, shave like his daddy, and drive a car like his daddy when he “gets taller and bigger like daddy.” I often catch Jack watching the face of his daddy. Not surprisingly, Jack’s expressions are beginning to resemble his daddy’s.
Unfortunately, Jack and I had another mommy vs. strong-willed toddler moment last week. It was getting ugly and loud. So I knew it was time to use the nuclear option. It was time to call daddy. So I whipped out my trusty iPhone and guess what I utilized– my beloved Facetime feature. (Thank you Holy Spirit for this moment of mommy brillance!)
When Jack heard his daddy’s voice and saw his face, he instantly calmed. Jack and I were able to work things out and move on, all because of Facetime.
I realize, however, that “facetime” may not always be a positive experience. Especially if the face belongs to someone who betrayed, abused, or hurt us. Thankfully, spiritual facetime with God via prayer or study of His Word, is a positive experience! Facetime with God reminds us that we are not alone and are loved. It reminds us that it is in our best interest to simply obey our Heavenly Father’s authority.
Be encouraged– there will be a day when we will see the literal face of Jesus Christ. What a sweet day that will be! Until then, don’t worry about how gi-normous your pores look, and don’t hold God and His Word at arms length…for this too, will get old.

This is a powerful example of how important it is to have a relationship with The Lord and spending time with him is critical. Great post Tracy! I will think about this one all day. Love ya!

I learn so much about myself as I parent my kids, Tracy. Going to our Father changes everything, every day. Read recently that prayer = dependence (Paul Miller, A Praying Life). As God’s children we are truly dependent on face time with Him.
Tracy says
I have also learned alot from parenting! Thanks for sharing Mr. Miller’s quote with us. We are truly dependent…

Great post, Tracy! I love that Jack instantly calmed when he heard his father’s voice. I pray that I will be like that in my life.
Tracy says
Me too Debra. May you and I quiet ourselves so that we can hear our Father’s voice… He is always waiting to spend time with us:). Thanks for reading and for your comment sister!
