Today my husband Chad is back on the blog talking about two of his favorites: God and Disneyland. I love how he supports One Degree and his desire to write to you. Have a blessed day and thank you for reading!
Tracy and I visit Disneyland semi-annually. No matter how many times we do this, there is still a magic that hangs in the air throughout the Magic Kingdom. Tracy is now a veteran, with four separate visits to the Disneyland Resort, so it was time to introduce her to the hunt for Hidden Mickeys.
For those of you that are unfamiliar with Hidden Mickeys, Steven M. Barrett defines them in Disneyland’s Hidden Mickeys: A Field Guide to Disneyland Resort’s Best Kept Secrets as: “a partial or complete image of Mickey Mouse that has been hidden by Disney’s Imagineers and artists in the designs of Disney attractions, hotels, restaurants, and other areas.”
For those of us that visit Disneyland on a regular basis, it takes these trips to a new level.

As we strolled around the park, spotting Hidden Mickey’s in Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, Space Mountain, and the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, I couldn’t help but think of the joy that comes from the hidden things in life that God reveals to us. In Daniel 2:20-22, we read,
“Daniel answered and said: ‘Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, to whom belong wisdom and might. He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding; he reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him.'”
Scripture acts in a similar way to that of the Steven Barrett Hidden Mickey book. God continually reveals Himself through nature (Romans 1:20) and His Word. As I walk through different aspects of my life, be it my marriage, fatherhood, or work, Daniel tells me that “‘[God] gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding; he reveals deep and hidden things…'” (Daniel 2:21b-22a, emphasis mine). With a relationship with Christ, and the study of His Word, God reveals the “Hidden Mickey’s” of life to me, and my life is richer for it.
Next time you walk through the Disneyland Resort (or Walt Disney World), try not to rush from ride to ride. Take the time to enjoy the Hidden Mickey’s carefully placed throughout the parks. You might find that your trip is even more memorable, and hopefully it will remind you that God offers to reveal His deep and hidden things to you when you search for them.
